If you or your better half is a member of the Carpenter's District Council in St. Louis and Southern Illinois, you have probably noticed that it is hard to find carhartt double front work pants in the stores ( in this area they're referred to as carpenter whites), the ones we wear to work. Over the years, people have given me strange looks (especially home owners and office personal) when I use my carpenter whites as a scratch pad and write stuff with my pencil on them, measurements, phone #'s, etc... But whatever it is that I write on them is easily read, goes with me where ever I go (verses a scrap block of wood) and pencil lead comes out in the wash. Makes perfect sense to me.
These are the only work pants that I have been able to find in which last six months or more, other whites that I've tried wear out at the knees in just a couple of weeks. Like all union carpenters and painters in the St. Louis area, we are required to wear whites on the job. It's the white pants that identify us as carpenters on job sites, the trade that uses hammers. The other guys use a paint brush.
Carhartt double front drill pants are comfortable and rugged work pants from day one and if you have worn them, I'm sure that you'll agree.
You don't see very many carpenters wearing carhartt bib overalls (double knee) these days. Bib overalls however, really come in handy when doing trim work, because when working inside on trim or finish carpentry. Wearing a bulky tool belt inside is risky, there is a higher risk of a hammer or some other tool hanging from the pouches scratching a kitchen cabinet or scraping walls.
